Face the Day

"I'm laughing , you're laughing - this opportunity almost missed. You smile, you tell me you felt the same before we kissed..." - All I Can Show

Recess is a band that chooses to laugh at itself while exploring the darkness and insecurity that comes with the sixth grader emotions that lie within us all, regardless of our age. From the crippling fear of unrequited love in "Karen" to the calculated risk of an affair in "Wake Up Call" to the inability of holding a steady job in "Norm's Song", they approach these themes with a bittersweet innocence and a mature triumph.

Their sound has been described as "if Weezer threw a party, invited the Police, Rush, and the Bare Naked Ladies, and at some point they all got up to jam..." They play a blend of power pop, reggae, funk, blues, and modern rock, tempered by their combined loves of progressive rock, folk, and classic rock.

A power trio, Recess feels this medium gives them the space and flexibility to express these multi-dimensional emotions in the purest way possible. Each of these songs can be stripped down to vocals and an acoustic guitar, as they have proven in live performances with surprise "unplugged" sets. It's also a chance for their signature three part harmonies to shine.

Recess is also known for their improvisations live. Their energy drips off the stage as they whip into a frenzy or lay back over an infectious groove. The audience becomes consumed and a part of the show as the band leads them in a sing along or call and response. No two shows are ever the same.

"We want people to leave saying, 'That was the best time I've had in a long time!' Because that's what they're out for, otherwise they could just stay home and listen to the cd."
