Don Menza in New Orleans” Features one of jazz’s most prolific composers and saxophone virtuosos. Menza has played with and arranged for some of the great big bands in American jazz including Maynard Ferguson, Buddy Rich and Woody Herman. This Leisure Video presentation features him in a small group setting, recorded “live” at Lulu White’s Mahogany Hall in New Orleans. An intimate atmosphere pervades as Menza’s quintet rompas through a set including original compositions “The Place” and “Faviana” as well as the jazz standard “Cedar Blues”. Included in the quintet are Sam Noto, trumpet; Cedar Walton, piano; Tony Dumas, bass; and Ralph Penland, on the drums.
