This album of 20th century music for solo cello features world premiere recordings by Turkish composers Ilhan Usmanbas and Cengiz Tanc. Almost all the works in the cd are in the musical form of Partita that usually includes dances. Since the music belongs to 20th century, the composers treated the partita form both avant-garde and with individual stylistic preferences as well as incorporating folk based melodies from Turkey. Some of the music was never officially published therefore the composer provided hand written score to the performer.
Solen Dikener began his research for cello and chamber music works by Turkish composers in 2000. He previously published another cd called "Turkish Music in the Western Idiom", featuring rthe music of Ilhan Baran. Dikener also discovered the "Pieces Concertante" by Turkish composer Cemal Resit Rey. The work for solo cello and orchestra was written in 1959 for great cellist Pierre Fournier and premiered the same year in Istanbul, Turkey. Since than the work was left out until rediscovered in 2005 by Solen Dikener and performed in 2007 with Bilkent Symphony Orchestra in Ankara, Turkey.
