A pivotal player to the UY fold, Vienna-based T Raum punches the clock this winter with his anticipated fifth EP for the label. Scanning out the frontier between hi-impact techno wares and melodic house upswings, via fitting patches of industrial-laced grittiness and further afield electronic divagations, the Austrian producer dishes out compelling new evidence of his floor-destroying flair and knack for crafting durably addictive joints.

Spanning all ends of the spectrum, from paranormal lo-end activity to choppy oscillator rogue waves at the surface, “Chorder” taps in a heavily delayed seam of steel-jacketed dub techno with its pack-hunting herd of reverb-soaked chords and arpeggiated bass moving at full throttle. The low-slung, feverish swing of “Cold Sweat” opts for a stealthier approach as it closes in on the raver’s headspace with fatality-triggering absoluteness. Carved out of the suavest material, it’s an unrelenting tsunami of hard-flanged piano stabs, chest-rattling hats and mangled, mermaid-like vox samples that unfurls with unstoppable momentum.

Driven by a laid-back metronomic swing knocked askew and processed vox reeling out with brooding presence, title-track “Who Am I” is a straight-out infectious shuffler, primed for sweaty get-down in the locker and down the alcove’s most intimate recesses. A sexy-to-the-fullest joint with its funk-dripping percs, oddly moody chimes and thoroughly hedonistic groove ready to set ablaze all dance-floors on its path. A more restrained number at first, “Talking” progressively soars to higher spheres of consciousness as its lushly brushed pad tapestries and vocodized verses elevate from their squelchy gangue towards weightless, dreamy solace.
